Activities & Events
The Grove Nursing and Residential Home is its own community, so there are plenty of activities going on at any given time. Our wellbeing and activities co-ordinator organises and delivers a full programme of flexible activities to suit the needs and wishes of your loved one.
Activities include reminiscent BINGO, aromatherapy massages, manicures and make up, sing-alongs, quizzes, indoor games and more. Visiting entertainers provide concerts and entertainment in the main lounges on a monthly basis.
Special events take place throughout the year including Easter, Valentine's day, Mother's day, Father's day, Halloween and Christmas. Our residents are actively involved in these — as can be seen on our Facebook page.
Services
- GPs
- The Grove benefits from a local general practitioner service and enables each resident to maintain links with their GP of choice. The majority of GP services facilitate the use of a Special Nurse Practitioner who is able to assess health changes and discuss advanced care planning with both residents and their families.
- Optician
- Local opticians regularly visit The Grove for both private and NHS treatments.
- Dental Service
- Residents are entitled to remain with their own dentist if they are mobile enough to attend surgery. Specialist dental service is also available at the local primary care centre.
- Podiatrists
- A private chiropodist is available at the home and visits bi-monthly. Clients are referred to NHS services by assessment if appropriate.
Coming & Going
There really are no limitations placed on the comings and goings of The Grove Nursing & Residential Home residents, their families and friends or their guests, beyond a few reasonable precautions designed to protect everyone's privacy and safety.
We are aware that mealtimes are a social occasion and you may wish to visit and share this time with a relative or friend. This needs to be prearranged with the team.
Local Links
The Grove Nursing and Residential Home has strong links with the communities of Rosegrove, Lowerhouse and Ightenhill, and many clients come to us as a result of local recommendation.
Just around the corner from us is the Queen Street Mill, the only surviving steam powered weaving mill in the world. We're situated within 50 metres of the Leeds and Liverpool canal with disabled access to the towpath which hosts a wide variety of beautiful fauna and flora.
Other popular attractions local to Burnley include Gawthorpe Hall, Pendle Heritage Centre and the Burnley Mechanics. Townley Hall is home to Burnley's own museum and art gallery, while the surrounding 180 hectare estate includes golf courses, tennis courts, bowling greens, a nature reserve, café and playgrounds.
